Open Sound Connect is a macOS app for controlling Sony headphones over Bluetooth. It is made by an independent developer (rolottr) and is not affiliated with Sony.

## The short version

Open Sound Connect controls your headphones locally, with no app analytics, advertising or tracking. Website purchases use a payment and licensing provider. The App Store version makes no network connections.

## What the app stores, and where

Headphone settings stay on your Mac, in the app's own container:

- **Scenes** you create (their names, settings and triggers, including the name and identifier of an app you choose as a trigger): in a file in the app's container.
- **Preferences and saved equalizer curves:** in the app's local settings.
- **The headphones you last used** (their Bluetooth address), so the app can reconnect to them: in the app's local settings.
- **Activity and diagnostics:** the setting changes and Bluetooth messages of the current session are kept in memory and shown on the Activity page. They are written to a file only when you choose Export, to the place you pick.

Direct-download license keys, activation IDs and the last successful validation are stored in the local, non-synchronizing macOS Keychain. Removing the app does not deactivate its license or remove the Keychain item. Use Manage License in the app or your account to free an installation.

## Bluetooth

The app connects to the Sony headphones paired with your Mac to read their settings (battery, noise control, equalizer, device settings) and to change them when you ask.

macOS asks once whether Open Sound Connect may use Bluetooth.

## Network connections

- **App Store version:** none. The app has no network access.
- **Direct downloads** send the license key, activation ID, a random installation ID and a label such as “Mac · 12345678” to our licensing provider for activation, validation and deactivation. No hardware serial number, computer name, headphone data or listening history is sent. Validation runs at launch, when the app becomes active and every 15 minutes while running. A successful validation permits up to seven days offline; an explicit refusal ends access immediately. Our licensing provider also receives ordinary connection data such as your IP address.
- **Direct downloads** check this project's GitHub releases for a new version once a day. That request goes to GitHub (api.github.com), sends nothing about you or your headphones, and can be turned off in Settings → Updates. GitHub's own privacy statement applies to it.

## Data collected by the developer

Our payment and licensing provider processes checkout information, such as your email address, and license activations on behalf of Nina Labs. This information is visible in our merchant dashboard and lets us provide licenses and support. The provider’s privacy policy applies to its service. The app sends no headphone telemetry or usage analytics to the developer.

## Children

The app does not target children or collect headphone telemetry. Website purchases use the payment and licensing services described above.

## This website

This website is hosted by Vercel, which processes your IP address to deliver the pages to you. It uses Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without identifying you. A cookie remembers your language only if you choose one in the language menu, so the site opens in it next time.

## Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new date.
